Fighters not living up to their name, and it angers coach
PETALING JAYA: Felda United are not living up to their tag as the Fighters and it has left coach Nidzam Jamil infuriated.
Nidzam wants his men to break their four-game winless run in the Super League when they face Perak tonight at the Perak Stadium to avoid being relegated.
They are currently in ninth spot with seven points in the 12-team league. They have not won any matches since the Covid-19 disrupted league resumed on Aug 28.
Nidzam has urged his team to go for an outright win.
“There is no such thing as we just want a point. Our main aim is to win tonight to improve our hopes of remaining in this league,” said Nidzam.
“In the next three games, we need to collect three or four points to avoid relegation. But I admit, it won’t be easy against Perak as they also need a victory to stay in the running for a spot in the AFC Cup.
Last season, the Fighters had to wait till the final game to confirm their status in the Super League and they delivered by beating Kedah 2-0.
Nidzam is hoping this season he won’t have to go through the same state of anxiety to avoid the drop.
The coach admitted that the team had been underperforming and two points from four games did not mirror their real ability.
“After five months of not playing, some teams have shown considerable improvement, while some have regressed – just like Felda.
“It is not because of tactics or other factors but it depends on proper team planning and sometimes, luck plays a part as well. And we are not getting much of it.”
After facing Perak, Felda will play Terengganu at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka on Oct 2 and play their final game against Selangor at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on Oct 10.
